Tommy Bucks (Real name: Thomas Francis Buckley), played by guest star Peter Greene, was a guest character in the FX series Justified. Bucks was a high-ranking Miami drug cartel member and a federal fugitive. He is shot and killed by Raylan Givens resulting in Raylan's transfer to Lexington, Kentucky. Despite a brief appearance in the series premiere, he remains one of the most frequently mentioned guest characters.
Biography[]
Background[]
Bucks is a gun thug and a high-ranking member for the Miami drug cartel whom Raylan has a grudge against. His rank was Captain. They first met in Nicaragua in pursuit of a money launderer who used to work for the cartel named Roland Pike. Tommy got the drop on Raylan and forced him into the car with another man and drove them to a coconut plantation and tied the man to a palm tree while Raylan watched and Tommy asked him where Roland was. Raylan told him everything he knew since there wasn't much choice, but Tommy, for unknown reasons, taped a stick of dynamite into the man's mouth, lit the fuse and made Raylan watch as the man exploded.
Season 1[]
In his one and only appearance he is shot and killed by Raylan Givens after being given 24 hours to leave Miami. The shooting occurs in broad daylight and results in Raylan's transfer to Lexington, Kentucky, which causes most of the events in the first season to be set in motion.
Relationships[]
- Raylan Givens: U.S. Marshal, killer
- Gio Reyes: Boss
- Nicaraguan farmer: Murder victim
Memorable Quotes[]
- "This is Surpreme Bullshit!" - final words
Trivia[]
- Bucks is the first on-screen death in the series.
- Tommy Bucks is based off of the antagonist of the Elmore Leonard novel Pronto, where Raylan Givens also debuted. In that novel, Bucks (Aka The Zip) was a high level enforcer for a Miami mob boss who Raylan similarly dueled in the climax of the book, after giving him a deadline to leave Miami-Dade County. However in Pronto, The Zip was a Sicilian immigrant trying to assassinate a Miami bookie named Harry Arno, not an American, and had no prior history with Raylan.
